“I was born very Spiritual. My mother told me how I would talk to people who ‘weren’t there’ in the back of the car. I would also see spirits in graveyards. In 2009 at the height of my Kundalini Awakening, I shared some of my spiritual experiences with the ‘wrong’ people and I was admitted into a psychiatric ward and diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I was told that my experiences were a form of psychosis. So I spent 5 years on medications, suppressing who I was.”- Hannah Joy
What made you take the leap into entrepreneurship?
It took 2 toxic workplaces and those 5 years of trying to squeeze myself into a mould that wasn’t me and continuously getting sick for me to realize that pushing down who I really was, wasn’t going to help me. It was only going to make me more and more ill.
So I went on a spiritual quest. My best advice around becoming an entrepreneur or ‘Spiritpreneur’ as I call myself, is to go deep within. Prioritize personal development and spiritual development. When you launch into ‘Life’s-purpose’ all of your shadows come up to the surface. All of your skeletons come out of the closest and you will be thrust into a deep emotional journey.
What is the one mantra that you live your life by?
I would say that forgiveness is one of my major practices and mantras. I try to forgive everyone and take the experiences with them.
Everyone comes into our lives to strengthen us and to teach us something. Some lessons are harder than others.
In 2014 my ex-partner attempted to Kill me while I was driving our car. A guardian angel Intervened and I was rescued. It took years of psychological support to recover but on a soul level I have forgiven him. I understand how much that experience propelled me into my soul work and onto my journey working with spirits and supporting people to see their value.
What are 3 tips you can share with our readers as it relates to your industry?
My top tips for Spiritual Entrepreneurship are:
Disconnect from all the noise. Meditation daily or do Yin Yoga, if you are a movement person. Journal and ask yourself questions without seeking answers from others.
Limit your time on social media. It can be a really noisy space and you can get trapped in comparison which can make you feel pretty crappy when you are just starting out.
Use and connect to your intuition. Your heart and your intuition are the best places to lead from when it comes to business. Even if you are not in a Spiritual business. Everything is Spiritual really, now that I come to think of it.
Take digital detox weekends or weeks regularly. No phone, no laptop, no WiFi. Just you, a journal and some nature. We are a part of the earth after all and earthly connection is one of the best things for us. Also one of the most healing things.
Don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is a given when it comes to Business. You will fail and you will learn the most from your failures. They are the biggest teachers. So take risks, celebrate your ‘failures’ and keep on going!
