Adam, the creator of Mentor Course Review, shares some highlights about the company with our readers on the launching of this new venture.
What made you take the leap into entrepreneurship?
Thinking about it, where I started my journey into entrepreneurship was selling lemonade at 5- years-old. I worked with my dad who was self-employed starting when I was 15-years-old recycling shipping skids. It was hard labor. We worked when there were no school nights for years. He always told me never to work for anyone else. My mom wanted me to get a job. Not happening. Sorry, mom.
I founded the metal recycling business at 18. The first time I tested the business, I drove around garbage at night picking metal parts from the side of the road. I made $60 from picking up some metal while I delivered pizzas and that started that business working every day. I work 7 days a week. All-day. I don’t know if it’s healthy, but I do it.
Recycling garbage turned into recycling electronic waste by the tractor-trailer load. I started eCommerce by advertising and selling merchandise online using eBay and Amazon. That’s how I started my transition into an online business.
What was the biggest business mistake you made and what did you do to learn from it?
There’s two.
1. Not doing sufficient research about an investment.
When I was younger I lost my life savings. I invested in a house in Florida. Then the recession came. That wasn’t the reason for losing it though. I’m not going to get into detail but I lost more money than some people make in 10 years in my 20’s. I learned to do the research and always ask a million questions before you start something new.
2. Giving others too much power with your products and business.
I lost $30,000 I invested in electronic waste. I trusted a partner too much that I shouldn’t have. We saved up a lot of electronic waste material. The recycling yard was located in New York. It was a dangerous area and my partner was robbed one night when he stayed late. They scared him to move locations and he stole my material too in the process. He repaid me a little money. Not close to what the final return would’ve been. I learned not to let other people have too much control over your business.
What would you say was the single most influential factor in creating Mentor Course Review?
The mentors and influencers themselves. A lot of these people are genius marketers. A big inspiration was watching Jason Capitals campaign to earn a huge following. No errors were seen. You can learn a lot from some influencers if you pay attention. The truth is buying courses isn’t necessary. You need to pay attention and copy what successful people do. What’s better is to join a group of like-minded people that share ideas headed by a few experienced people.
As of now, there is no way to check if a course a mentor is selling is worth the money. That’s why Mentor Course Review was created. There’s a lot of buzz going on about starting your own online business and a lot of people selling courses just to sell them and they don’t care about helping people. We’re trying to change that on Mentor Course Review.
After seeing so many fake gurus and excellent ones doing good things, I knew it was time for Mentor Course Review to find out who is real. We are also soon launching our own program to build people a blog or website in their niche and teach them digital marketing and SEO and WordPress. We will have a private group for all people to share ideas. We are hoping to launch this project within the next month.
I want people to know that anyone can make money without a boss. You simply need to do the work.
